Genevieve Bloom has been named Senior Citizen of the Year. Mrs. Bloom has been visiting local convalescent homes and hospitals for the past 37 years singing to the patients. Biographical notes included.
Jeff Julian, and eighth grader at Dana Junior High School, has more than 200 swimming trophies and is nationally ranked according to Swimming World magazine.
Arcadia High School offers unique peer mentoring program for students with autism. Upperclass students mentor their peers with autism. The program has been around for six years. Genevieve Huffman, speech pathologist at Arcadia High School, is founder of this program. She explains that autism is a neurobehavioral spectrum disorder that can include a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communications, and others, and also reflects the wide variation in strengths possessed by each person with autism.
The Arcadia Board of Education made firm its plans for the Junior High pupils. First Avenue 8th and 9th graders will attend classes on their own campus, while incoming 7th graders will be divided between Dana and Foothills junior high schools.
Susan Gulkis, an eighth grade honor student at Foothill Junior High School in Arcadia is an accomplished violinist. Currently concertmistress of the Pasadena Youth Symphony and the Foothills Junior High orchestra, she will be featured soloist in a "Symphony for Youth" concert sponsored by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Arcadia High School students are doing well on the high school exit examinations. 89% of 10th graders taking the math exam passed and 88% passed the English exam. Comparison of test scores with Monrovia, Pasadena, and Los Angeles County.
