2024 ELECTIONS - Pasadena City College: Four candidates compete for two Board of Trustee seats on the March 5 election. Voters elect a trustess from each of the seven districts in an area that includes Arcadia, a portion of El Monte, La Canada Flintridge, Pasadena, Rosemead, San Marino, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena, and Temple City. Area 2 candidates are Kevin D. Strotz and James Aragon. Area 6 candidates are Ryan Liu and John Quintanilla.
A fourth horse dies from training injury at Santa Anita Park. A 5-year-old mare named Big Switch has been euthanized following a sesamoid injury from exercising. Owner and breeder is George Krikorian. Trainer was John Sadler and jockey was Juan Hernandez.
Los Angeles County Arboretum celebrates 75th anniversary with an Arboretum Foundation fundraiser event honoring Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger for her ongoing support. The event raised $241,000 for the education programs and care of the 125 acre Arboretum gardens and landmark structures. TailoredSpace brings flexible co-working space to suburbs. TailoredSpace CEO Drew Sanden, a seasoned commercial real estate broker, launched TailoredSpace with COO Scott Maples in 2019. The company has been expanding its office campuses in Southern California suburbs, offering flexible co-working and communal spaces for fixed-price monthly memberships. Sanden said he cut his teeth in brokerage along the 210 Freeway corridor--Monrovia and Arcadia.
Ryan Liu, a former Pasadena City College (PCC) Valedictorian enters race for PCC's board of trustees Area 6 seat. The seat, which represents portions of El Monte, San Gabriel, Rosemead, Arcadia and Temple City, is currently held by John Martin, first elected in 1979.
"Stilleto Boy" wins Santa Anita Handicap for first Grade 1 victory. Jockey was Kent Desormeaux. ("Stilleto" is how it's spelled in the article.) Trainer was Ed Moger, Jr.
Former TV finance analyst from Arcadia James Arthur McDonalds, Jr. charged with lying to investors about the health of his finance firm and failing to disclose massive losses incurred through risky investments following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. McDonald was CEO of Los Angeles-based Hercules Investments and Redondo Beach-based Index Strategy Advisors Inc. He is believed to be in hiding.
Another homeless village set to open in Baldwin Park. 16-unit tiny home complex will house families in need. It's called Serenity Homes, 13167 Garvey Avenue in Baldwin Park. Senator Susan Rubio, D-West Covina, celebrated the opening with elected officials from all over the San Gabriel Valley, including from Arcadia, Azusa, Glendora, La Puente, Monrovia, San Marino, South Pasadena, Temple City and Mount San Antonio College. It is the second tiny homes village opening in Baldwin Park within a year and serves as a model for how cities can expand homeless services.
Santa Anita Park to host Breeders' Cup for a record 11th time, in 2023. Local horsemen were overjoyed at the announcement. Santa Anita Park is still the only track to host the Breeders' Cup for 3 consecutive years, in 2012-2014.
