Arcadia Assistance League's Bargain Box thrift store re-opens after a major $35,000 revamp including new display fixtures, carpeting, and an interior and exterior paint job. The opening celebration, starting at 3pm tomorrow, marks the 40th anniversary of Operation School Bell, a program that provides clothing to needy children. The Assistance League has 100 members and bought the store at 64 E. Live Oak Avenue in 1982.
Ruth Gilb, president of the board of directors of the Arcadia Welfare and Thrift Shop, says the store is a vital part of the community. Not only is it a retail store, it is a social service facility that provides assistance to people with financial, family, and personal problems.
Arcadia Methodist Hospital celebrated its 53rd Annual Holiday Homes Tour. All proceeds go to support The Next Generation of Care campaign, toward a new patient tower, expanded Emergency department, and additional ICU beds.

Pasadena's Lighthouse Christian Store on Lake Avenue closed its business earlier this month, due to tough competition from bookstores like Amazon and big box stores like Costco, Sam's Club and Target.
