This is the first Arcadia Board of Education election in six years in which candidates are contested. This is also the first to employ touch screen machines at six polling places.
The Arcadia Board of Education has adopted a $63.9 million General Fund budget for the coming year. The budget contains reductions across the board, with 10% cuts at schools, a reduction in categorical programs and no cost of living increase from the state.
As part of the Centennial celebration, Gloria Horstman will review current books at the Arcadia Public Library. Horstman was an Arcadia school board member and served on the Library's Board of Trustees.
Arcadia mayor Roger Chandler outlined six major areas of progress in the last year in his State of the City address. Overall, he said, "The state of Arcadia is great!"

Arcadia's official city birthday party will be held August 5, a date that reflects the official declaration of Arcadia cityhood by the Board of Supervisors, back in 1903. The 100th birthday party includes a scavenger hunt, the release of the anthology "Visions of Arcadia," unveiling the bronze peacock statue at Peacock Corner, a mixer at the Ruth and Charles Gilb Arcadia Historical Museum, and a birthday party at the Community Center. Ex-Muir High School teacher Brandon Michael Landreth, 30, of Pasadena, will be tried for murdering his his ex-wife's boyfriend Justo Cesar Morales. He pleaded not guilty. Ex-wife Tania Landreth claimed he had confessed to killing Morales
