British food giant Tesco is going to open Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Markets in West Covina and Arcadia on November 8, 2007. Fresh and Easy stores are relatively small and lean heavily on fresh food offerings, including prepared meals and sushi.
Home sales rise sharply in February with a 69.3% increase in sales in Los Angeles County over the same period a year ago. People are buying up foreclosed homes as prices drop in the San Gabriel Valley. Arcadia home prices came down 6.6%, whereas Azusa's home prices fell 45.3%. The median price of a single family home in the county was $298,000 in February, compared with $465,000 last year. Arcadia's median home price was the highest in the San Gabriel Valley, at $635,000. Opening day of its 72nd season of thoroughbred racing at Santa Anita Park brought in 33,112 fans. Santa Anita Park officials were pleased with the turnout.
Students in the Arcadia public schools will obseerve Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 27, a week after the national holiday. The change has been brought to the attention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
A new Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market has opened in Arcadia. It is owned by Tesco, a British food giant. Tesco's labor practices have come under fire for relying on part-time workers, which may limit the ability of workers to earn a living wage.
A new exhibit, "Petals, Peacocks and Princesses," featuring photographs and memorabilia from the city's participation over the years in the Tournament of Roses parade, is opening at the Arcadia Historical Museum.

Los Angeles County's median home price is rising. In July, 2009, it was $339,430, up from $319,860 in June 2009, but well below $395,240 a year ago. Broker Chris Vigil thinks the market has hit rock bottom. Arcadia's median home price in July 2009 was $663,000, up from $626,500 a year ago (July, 2008). A 30-year old man was shot in an apparent robbery in the parking lot of 99 Ranch Market on Wednesday, April 13, 2005. He was pronounced dead at Huntington Memorial Hospital. The suspect got away.
