Richard Knerr, co-founder of Wham-O Inc., the toy company that made the Hula Hoop, Slip 'N Slide, Silly String and Frisbee, died at Arcadia Methodist Hospital after suffering a stroke in his Arcadia home. He was 83.

Services were held Tuesday in Arcadia for Robert John Pierson, who died of AIDS-related illness on March 21, at the age of 41. Pierson, who grew up in Arcadia, authored "The Beach towns: A walker's guide to LA's Beach Towns" and was co-author of "LAbyrinth: A student's guide to Los Angeles." At the time of his death he was living in West Hollywood and teaching at USC.
Songwriter and composer Marvin Hamlisch dies at age 68. He had been the Principal conductor of Pasadena Pops Orchestra. His last concert was July 21 at the Los Angeles County Arboretum.
Arcadia resident in the 700 block of Camino Grove Avenue finds the body of a stranger in his swimming pool. The dead man is 35-year old Greg Tser-Ming Chen of Arcadia. Foul play was not initially suspected in the death. Chen's dog, a golden retriever, which was not on a leash, was found in the backyard too. No definitive cause of death found by exam of Medina Spirit, the 2021 Kentucky Derby winning horse. The necropsy results were released by California Horse Racing Board yesterday. The colt had collapsed and died after a workout on December 6, 2021 at Santa Anita Park. Necropsy reported that the horse had swollen lungs and foam in his windpipe, enlarged spleen and congestions and mild hemorrhages in other tissues that "are common in horses dying suddenly..." Trainer was Bob Baffert.
A freeway shooting leaves one dead in Arcadia. Driver crashes, dies, after being shot by someone in another car while on the 210 Freeway, California Highway Patrol reports. The driver was a woman, a Monrovia resident.

Duarte resident Daniel Delgado, 25, died after crashing into a tree in the 12000 block of Lower Azusa Road in Arcadia. Witnesses say he had been driving recklessly before he lost control.
