Eddie Delahoussaye retired after a riding mishap on August 30, 2002. He fractured his neck and suffered a bad concussion. As he stood before adoring fans to receive an honor at Santa Anita Park race track, he wished he was still riding. He is a longtime resident of Arcadia.
Arcadia resident and business owner Fawaz Elmasri, who was born in Lebanon, conveyed a message that Muslim people are peaceful and the Islam religion condemns killing of civilian people and the destruction of property. Joe Borland, a physical therapy business owner in Arcadia, will not be running for City Council, even though he took out nomination papers and gathered more than enough signatures of residents. He changed his mind about running when he learned he might have to pay up to $2000 to have his ballot statement translated into Chinese and Spanish. He has issues with the erosion of English as the sole language of public affairs.
Dennis Mills, vice chairman and CEO of Canada-based MI Developments, which owns Santa Anita Park, said the company will be unveiling a new business plan. This new business plan has many horse racing industry people worried about the future.
Honorees of Arcadia Chamber 2015 Business Awards include Patricia Colonello of Mountain Views News. Business Person of the Year went to Kin Hui of Arcadia, CEO of Singpoli Group. Business of the Year went to Sierra Auto Honda, a family owned business. Raquel McLaughlin and her mother were awarded New Business of the Year.
The Arcadia City Council will decide on an ordinance to regulate massage therapy. Provisions will regulate massage therapists, practitioners or technicians, and require them to have identification cards from the police and a business license. The ordinance contains other restrictions.
