He had been convicted of racketeering charges, solicitation of murder and multiple tax and fraud charges when prosecutors came forward with new evidence that appeared to exonerate him on the more serious charges. Torres was released from federal custody after being held without bail for two years.

Gracie Gao, 57, and Steve Wang, 58, were arrested on suspicion of operating a house of prostitution on the 200 block of West Palm Avenue in Arcadia. Gao and Wang were booked on a misdemeanor charge and later released on $500 bail. The arrests at the well-kept ranch-style house surprised neighbors.
Two Asian men died Wednesday night after being gunned down as they left a restaurant in the 1000 block of South Baldwin Ave. One victim was identified as Kenneth Tsui of West Covina.
