The Assistance League of Arcadia is sponsoring "Operation School Bell," a project which provides over 900 needy San Gabriel Valley children with new shoes, socks, underwear, sweatshirts, and 2 complete outfits each year.

Arcadia resident Thomas V. McKernan, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Automobile Club of California, has been elected president of the non-profit Los Angeles Police Foundation, which was created to help fund police safety programs.
A committee headed by Irene Burkner has done an update of a study made ten years ago by the Arcadia League of Women Voters on local public school education. The recent study, which was presented to the Board of Education, attempts to reconcile the League's desire for the best possible education with the current financial situation. The Boy's Christian League will not be permitted to distribute literature through the schools unless the Arcadia School Board changes its policy. National organizations such as the Scouts, the YWCA and the YMCA now have this permission.
Arcadia High School requests move to Rio Hondo League, although its first preference is to keep the Pacific League as is. The changes would go into effect for the 2014-2015 school year. Arcadia High School's request to leave Pacific League is contingent upon Crescenta Valley High School joining the Rio Hondo League, which is currently made up of Blair, La Canada, Monrovia, San Marino, South Pasadena, and Temple City High Schools. The Pacific League is made up of Arcadia High School, Burbank, Burroughs, Crescenta Valley, Glendale, Hoover, Muir, and Pasadena.
The Assistance League of Arcadia will open the doors of the new Bargain Box at 64 East Live Oak on Monday, April 5. The new thrift shop will continue to offer creative shopping and to fund the philanthropic efforts of the organization which has served the community for 28 years.
