The City of Arcadia and the Arcadia Unified School District, in a joint effort with the Youth Master Plan Committee, kicked off the opening of the first summer youth center.
The expansion and creation of recreation and activity programs at all school levels and extending Arcadia Public Library hours to include Sunday afternoon topped the list of recommendations in the Youth Master Plan.
The proposal by the Youth Master Plan Steering Committee for after-school programs will not be funded by the City at this time, but further discussions will continue.
The Apache Pit, a new after-school teen center in the heart of the Arcadia High School campus, is funded and operated by the school district and Arcadia's Youth Services Coordinating Council. The project opened in mid-October.

Construction has begun on Arcadia Unified School District's $20 million Performing Arts Center. The 40,000 square feet, state-of-the-art facility is due to open in fall of 2012. It is funded by Measure I.

Police have arrested a 16 year old Arcadia High School student on suspicion of firing a gun Monday afternoon at two teenagers involved in an on-campus brawl several hours earlier.
With the passage of the Rodda Bill, teachers must be represented by a single bargaining agent. Undoubtedly, unions will merge. The Rodda Bill allows bargaining on: wages, hours and working conditions which take some jurisdiction from the School Board.
