Arcadia Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) held a holiday program at Church of the Good Shepherd on December 12, featuring the Brighter Side Singers of Temple City High School, directed by Matt Byers.
Martial arts champion, Hollywood actress, and stunt woman, Jing Li, is a martial arts instructor at Washu Action Star Academy in Temple City. She will be a guest at the Arcadia Branch of the American Association of University Women on Monday, November 12. She will present a program about Washu, an exhibition, and full contact sport, and view the documentary film "Autumn Gem," in which Jing Li has a starring role. Local Muslim businessman and resident Fawaz Elmasri, of Lebanese descent, condemns the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. He dispels myths about Muslims to promote better relations between Muslims and the communities that are now looking upon his people with suspicion.
Arcadia Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) sponsors local Arcadia girls' week at Tech Trek Science and Math Camp June 14 through June 20 at Whittier College. The girls will explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses and careers.
Arcadia AAUW presents Carol Dennis with their 2012 Woman of Achievement Award. Past President Betty Harris received a certificate from the National AAUW for her 50 years of membership.

Arcadia resident and business owner Fawaz Elmasri, who was born in Lebanon, conveyed a message that Muslim people are peaceful and the Islam religion condemns killing of civilian people and the destruction of property. He explained that the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were acts against God.

Photo taken by TABER (studio) shows 31 of Elias J. Baldwin's African-American employees. Elias J. Baldwin hired them from the south in 1886 to come work on the Baldwin Ranch. There seems to be only one man in photo. All others are women and children. They are standing next to a building with a long porch; doors and windows open off of it. San Gabriel Mountains are seen in background.
Santa Anita Park race track hosts 2023 Horse Racing Women's Summit (HRWS) on September 29. Over 150 women from 13 states and Canada gathered for the second HRWS to advance racing by empowering women.
Amanda Avila of Rowland Heights is one of 16 finalists on television's talent show "American Idol." Her family and friends meet at an Arcadia restaurant every week to see if she advances to the next round.
Animal rights advocate Barbara Casey, who oversaw working conditions on the canceled HBO series "Luck" has sued HBO and the American Humane Association, claiming horses on the show were grossly mistreated. She says she was wrongfully fired after complaining about inhumane conditions on the show.
