Medical offices to be built adjacent to Arcadia Methodist Hospital. Developer Dick Hale will create a new 4 story, 72,000 square feet, state of the art medical office building. It is a joint venture between Hale Corporation and The Stronach Group, owner of Santa Anita Park Race Track. Groundbreaking slated for 2013, with space available for tenants in 2014.
Integrated Circuit Development Corporation (ICS/Heateflex) of Montrose officially broke ground for a new 18000 sq. ft. headquarters and assembly facility at 405 E. Santa Clara in Arcadia.
The Arcadia Unified school board has agreed to terms with mall developer Rick Caruso, who is offering free office space to the district inside his proposed Shops at Santa Anita. Caruso is offering 22,000 square feet of office space, plus 88 dedicated parking spots, for 40 years, at no charge.
The Arcadia Board of Education will lease 200 square feet of property at Dana Middle School to AT&T to install a cellular phone tower. The lease will be for 5 years with a minimum bid of $18,000 per year.
Waken Development L.L.C. breaks ground on a two building lowrise office complex in Arcadia at Santa Clara Street and Fifth Avenue.Completion scheduled for June, 2002. Hale Corporation is a partner in the project and will serve as design/build contractor.
Santa Anita Park race track's CEO and President Ron Charles said Santa Anita Park race track will not be sold to help Magnum Entertainment Corporation eliminate a $600-million-plus debt. However, Santa Anita Park race track is entertaining discussions with Magnum Entertainment Corporation concerning potential partnerships or joint ventures on a minority interest basis. Westfield Santa Anita mall is paving the way for new eateries to join its open-air Promenade. The mall has requested the city to allow an increase in restaurant space permitted there from 10,000 to 30,000 square feet.
Construction has started on the expansion of the Westfield Shoppingtown Santa Anita. There will be two parking structures to replace current surface parking, 104,400 square feet of retail space, 18,400 square feet of restaurants, a 7,800 square foot food court, 45,000 square feet of specialty stores, 54,300 square feet of movie theaters, and a 5,400 square foot auto center. The tenant list includes an AMC theater, Borders bookstore, and a Sports Chalet. The expansion is scheduled to be completed September 2004. City manager Bill Kelly said Arcadia will proceed to expand Fire Station 105 to serve as the new fire department headquarters and will rebuild Station 106. The city is considering building a new City Hall and youth center from city revenues from Santa Anita Park. The new police station, the first city facility partly financed through bonds, will be open this fall. A $1/2 million project to remodel City Council Chambers is finally complete, with the opening of the council conference room.
A fast-growing medical software company in Arcadia, Software Technologies Corporation, recently introduced the first product that allows health-care providers to use the Internet for transmitting confidential information.
On behalf of the Arcadia Redevelopment Agency, Mayor Gilb accepted a check for $250,000 from Hometel of America Corporation. This is the first of several payments toward the purchase of the property at the northeast corner of Second Ave. and Huntington Dr.

New development and businesses in Downtown Arcadia. The Metro Gold Line train has brought renewed success and energy to Downtown Arcadia. A mixed-use project near the Gold Line's Arcadia station will include over 16,000 square feet of commercial space, 38 residential units, and 110 new parking spaces are under construction, as is a 4,000 square foot Art Deco style office building at 130 S. First Avenue. Last year, Mr. Lowe Brewing Co. opened Arcadia's first microbrewery and in July, Vendome Wine & Spirits opened at 103 E. Santa Clara St. Article by Mayor Peter Amundson.
The Arcadia City Council has awarded a $3.056 million contract to Pacific Hydrotech to build the St. Joseph Reservoir at Santa Clara and Second Avenue.
The City Council gave preliminary approval Wednesday to an expansion of the Arcadia Public Library that may add 15,000 square feet of space at a cost of about $3.5 million.
