A number of Arcadia Neighborhood Watch groups have planned get-togethers and block parties for August 9. As many as 50 such gatherings are anticipated.
In an effort to reduce crime, the Arcadia Police Department is planning a comprehensive Neighborhood Watch program that will involve about 438 Arcadia residents and touch every block of the city.
Sometime at the end of this year, Vons Grocery Co. plans to open one of its new Pavilions grocery stores just west of the Hinshaw's Department Store on Baldwin Avenue.
Construction of a Vons Market west of Baldwin Avenue between Duarte Road and Naomi Avenue may depend on whether the East Pasadena Water Company accepts the City Council's proposal allowing the city to extend its line into the water company's territory at the western end of the Vons development. Arcadia City Council moved forward Tuesday night in effort to bring a Vons supermarket into West Arcadia. First action was consolidation of nine lots at 745-809 West Naomi Ave. and 812-828 West. Duarte Road into one parcel. Approved 3-1

Residents of the neighborhood near the Golden West Village Shopping Center are upset that the abandoned stores are being used as a dumping ground. The mall was vacated by the Pantry market and Clark Drug Store almost two years ago.

Louie Peterson who runs A & A Motorcycle Repair near the corner of La Porte & First Avenue has created a motorcycle museum in one part of his shop. On display are 20 mostly British motorcycles and a unique steam driven cycle. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.
Robert Berlien, the new Water Department Manager, is a native if Indiana. He says that the assumption of his duties has been fairly easy because of the fine job done by retrying manager John Grivich. One of the problems facing ALL Water Departments is the availability of electrical power to run the pumps.
City Council heard testimony on problems connected with opening of Marquee West - a club opened recently to bring musical groups to Arcadia - and aim at the younger people in the community. Paul Fry, spokesman for Marquee West, promised to police the operation more heavily. The club will be open Thursday through Saturday.
