Barnhart School aims to be the best. Founded in 1959 by Dr. Ethel Barnhart, the school is affiliated with non-denominational Santa Anita Church, K-8th grades.

Arcadia Unified School District hires four new principals. They are Tom Bruce (First Avenue Middle School), Teresa Oakdale (Holly Avenue Elementary School), Ben Acker (Foothills Middle School), and Lauren Leahy (Hugo Reid Elementary School). The new hires come soon after David Vannasdall became the district superintendent in May.

Cell tower opponents Arcadians Against Residential Towers (AART) hold garage sale for community outreach on September 17 at 1833 Louise Avenue. Verizon, the wireless cell phone company, has proposed a 73-foot tall tower near a preschool and elementary school, in an R1 zone. AART has gathered 1000 signatures on a petition.
Paul Graf, 90, of New Albany, Indiana, came back to Arcadia to see Santa Anita Park again. He had been based there as a United States Army staff sergeant during World War II, when the track was turned over to the Army Ordnance Corps for training purposes and was officially renamed Camp Santa Anita. Graf said he used to run for exercise on the Anita Chiquita training track, which was eliminated when the Santa Anita Fashion Park was built in the 1970s. Graf had arrived at Camp Santa Anita around November 1942, after the site had already been used as the Japanese Assembly Center. Arcadia Apaches set the stage for historic CIF victory. For the first time in 40 years, Arcadia High School football team will go to the CIF-SS Division 8 championship game, by beating Alta Loma in the semifinals. Arcadia High School is already the champ of the Pacific League.
Due to lower enrollment, Immaculate Conception School (K-4th grades) in Monrovia and Annunciation School (5th-8th grades) in Arcadia will merge their resources and student bodies to stay open.
City of Arcadia Mayor Gary Kovacic proclaims March 2 "Bobbie the Bobcat's New Friend: Day of Kindness" for Barnhart School's student-created book launch. It will be read at Arcadia Public Library on Read Across America Day.
