Miguel Solorzano, 31, of El Monte and Constancio Lopez, Jr., 30, of El Monte, were accused of burglarizing an Arcadia home in the 5100 block of Marshburn Avenue during fumigation.
War veteran Mike Velarde, 78, of Arcadia, tricked his Spanish-speaking mother into signing the paperwork to enlist in the U.S. Army at age 16. He had served in the Korean War. A photo of Velarde is shown in honor of Memorial Day. He remembers his wartime buddies who did not make it home alive.
Proposed logistics center in Arcadia could impact traffic and El Monte residents. A former gravel mine (quarry) may soon become a 1.6 million square foot logistics center and industrial park on an 81-acre site on the southeastern end of Arcadia. Property owner is John Edwards, Jr. El Monte City Manager Jesus Gomez is working with Arcadia and the developer to protect El Monte residents. With enough mitigation measures, if approved by Arcadia City Council, construction could begin after the reclamation is complete, as early as 2017.

On Santa Anita Derby Day, the track attendance was 30,713, the third smallest in the past 75 runnings of the Santa Anita Derby, about 5,000 below the recent average. Arcadia resident, 17 year-old Nikolas Smalldridge, is a Boy Scout from Troop 169 in Temple City. He is collecting baby items to fly from El Monte Airport to the House of Ruth Pregnancy Care Center in Cottonwood, Arizona. He has a private pilot license.
