Rick J. Caruso, founder and CEO of Caruso Affiliated, who is seeking to build The Shops at Santa Anita in Arcadia, has been named to the University of Southern California Board of Trustees.
CEO Ikenna Mmeje begins managing USC Arcadia Hospital. Ikenna "Ike" Mmeje will lead expansion of access to specialized healthcare and research to the San Gabriel Valley while overseeing all management and operations of the hospital. The hospital was formerly Methodist Hospital of Southern California and is now run by Keck Medicine. Mmeje replaces former president and CEO Dan Ausman, who has retired. Mmeje served as CEO of both Memorial Care Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children's and Women's Hospital in Long Beach. He previously held CEO and COO roles with Tenet Healthcare.
Methodist Hospital of Southern California joins Keck Medicine of USC as USC Arcadia Hospital. The affiliation was finalized July 1. Dan Ausman is the president and CEO of USC Arcadia Hospital.
Right woman for the job. New Athletic Director at University of Southern California (USC) Jennifer Cohen brings integrity to Trojans program. She has 30 years of collegiate athletic experience, including the past 7 years in the same post at University of Washington. Cohen was born in Arcadia.
Frank Stronach, chairman of MI Developments, is scheduled to address the California Horse Racing Board to address a number of issues, including a potential new racetrack surface for Santa Anita Park and the recent cancellation of its lease with the charitable Oak Tree Racing Association. Dennis Mills, MI Development's CEO and vice chairman has said Santa Anita Park might replace its synthetic track soon, which could jeopardize hosting Oak Tree's meet there.
Arcadia resident Thomas V. McKernan, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Automobile Club of California, has been elected president of the non-profit Los Angeles Police Foundation, which was created to help fund police safety programs.
Living without power. Wind troubles linger. Residents frustrated; damage costs elusive. Southern California Edison's (SCE) hardest hit areas include Arcadia, Monrovia and Templa City, where more than 2,800, 1,600, and 1,700 residents, respectively, are still without power. Arcadia's City manager Don Penman said he wouldn't be surprised if the public costs for recovery efforts exceeded $2 million.
Arcadia resident Ralph Bicker, a retiree for 25 years, keeps busy with volunteer work. He volunteers as the secretary/treasurer of the Pasadena Federal Credit Union's board of directors. He has been named Volunteer of the Year by the National Association of Federal Credit Unions.

Vendors and 2000 people attended the Southern California Utility Association's Information Fair. Arcadia's water department employee, Richard Reeley, raced to see how quickly he could change a water meter. The Fair was held at the Irwindale Speedway.
Methodist Hospital Foundation will honor Arcadia resident Paul Ravesies during the 2002 Crystal Ball. He is a long-time supporter of Methodist Hospital and has served on its board of directors.
