Santa Anita Park and City of Hope are joining forces to raise money to fight cancer with the first "On Track to Beat Cancer" walk, this Sunday at the race track. It is a 1/4 fundraising walk. All proceeds raised will go toward City of Hope's Women's Cancer Program for research, treatment and education.

Santa Anita Park's 18th annual Derby Day 5K Walk & Run attracted a record 5,683 participants last Saturday. Positive Appearance Center opens at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. It is a 300 sq. ft. room, completely refurbished, to provide services to current and former cancer patients. They can receive counseling and items designed to enhance their appearance, including head scarves, hats, skin lotions, cosmetics, and more.
History of Taste of Arcadia, the Chamber of Commerce event. It takes place September 24 this year at Los Angeles County Arboretum. Traditionally held the last Monday in September, each year the event grows in popularity. Taste of Arcadia began as the Wine Shed Mixer to raise money for Arcadia Tournament of Roses Association.
Annual Taste of Arcadia, an Arcadia Chamber of Commerce event, will take place Monday, September 19 at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. As always, a percentage of proceeds goes to three local non-profit organizations. This year, the beneficiaries are Assistance League of Arcadia, the Boy Scouts of America/Lucky Baldwin District, and the Arboretum Foundation.
Arcadia High School boys Eric Garibay, Sergio Gonzalez, Allen Leung and Ryan Vargas, are on the 2010 All-Area Cross Country boys team. Arcadia High School freshman Veronica Yamane and junior Alejandra Quintero are on the 2010 All-Area Cross Country girls team. James O'Brien of Arcadia High School, is named Coach of the Year for the boys. Ammar Moussa and Catrina McAlister, both from Arcadia High School, were named Star News Runners of the Year. Arcadia brothers Eric and Richard Dong (they attend San Marino High School) receive Outstanding Young Philanthropists award. They offered piano lessons to kids at the Union Station family center. They gave money and talked to the kids about investing in the stock market. With profits they made from their investments, they established the Richard and Eric Dong Endowment Fund for Union Station to provide scholarships for children in sports, music and the arts, leadership, and human rights promotion, to buy books for the family library; to fund staff appreciation and recognition and to finance the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights educational programs.
Restaurants in Downtown Arcadia will participate in the Chamber of Commerce event “2018 Taste of Arcadia” at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden on September 24. Matt Denny’s Alehouse Restaurant will be appearing with new owner Long Nguyen, and Claro’s Italian Market (a staple of Arcadia since 1948), Mt. Lowe Brewery, Vendome Wine & Spirits, and Villa Catrina will be participating.
California State Treasurer John Chiang and Arcadia leaders shower accolades at the groundbreaking of Le Meridien, One Gallop Way. It is a $300 million hotel and mixed-use development on seven acres, opposite Santa Anita Park race track. Developer Chateau Group USA held the ceremonal groundbreaking on June 27. Le Meridien is a Marriott brand. CEO Eric Chen spoke. Architects Orange, interior design firm Linda Snyder Associates and construction company Snyder Langston have been tapped to work this project.
