Jon Shafer, a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in the U. S. Army and an Arcadia High School graduate, is home from Afghanistan. He has been a pen pal with students in Monrovia.
Artwork by Zhong Du of Arcadia High School was selected as Best of Show during last month's California division of the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Competition. He will now compete at the national level.

Controversy surrounds the appointment of a new principal at Arcadia High School as the district interview committee forwarded only one candidate to the school board for approval. The contract requires 2-4 candidates be reviewed. The teachers' union protested.
Arcadia's 100th birthday festivities will begin in January with the city's float entry in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. Riders on float include Jon Dorian Shafer, Lane Barcham and Alison Chien. Other activities for the centennial year are outlined.

Donna McCreadie, 62, of Arcadia is one of five recipients of the Horace Mann National Education Association Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence. She teaches economics at Temple City High School. Her award is $10,000.
The 35th annual Public Schools luncheon was held at the Masonic Center to honor 26 National Merit Scholarship students. The Foothills Middle School Sixth Grade Chorus performed.
Former Arcadia High School teacher Phillip Morgan Sutliff pleaded guilty to multiple sex crimes against a former student, accepting a plea bargain of 12 years and eight months in state prison.
