The Arcadia High School class of 2002 has 28 National Merit Scholarship finalists. It is the highest number in school history. A group photograph and biographical information on each finalist is presented.
Arcadia police officers honor Albert Matthies, the city's only police officer killed in the line of duty, with a ceremony and a plaque, 80 years after his death. The plaque is on the 1000 block of North View Avenue.
The 35th annual Public Schools luncheon was held at the Masonic Center to honor 26 National Merit Scholarship students. The Foothills Middle School Sixth Grade Chorus performed.
Dusty Gibbs, 17, a senior at Arcadia High School, has been named the 90th Tournament of Roses Queen. Photographs of Gibbs, princesses Gaelen Stanford-Moore and Katie Merrill are included.
Arcadia High School students Marcus Haney and Justin Tan made a film about immigration and breaking down social barriers. It's called Viola and will screen at Laemmle One Colorado Theater in Old Pasadena.
Elizabeth Shin, a freshman at Arcadia High School, won the Music Teachers National Association Junior High Woodwind Auditions for California and the Southwest States Division.
Rogelio Gonzalez, Arcadia High School student, was named CIF Southern Section Player of the Year for boys soccer. Four other Arcadia High School students were awarded individual honors in Division III.
