Steven Chavez, 16, of Duarte, earns Eagle Scout status after he organizes a blood drive for his mother's friend Alexandra Razo. Razo has a disease called idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
The annual Scout Expo was held at Santa Anita Park's infield on Saturday, June 4. The Boy Scouts of America Councils of Verdugo Hills, Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley met there to showcase their talents.

Arcadia resident, 17 year-old Nikolas Smalldridge, is a Boy Scout from Troop 169 in Temple City. He is collecting baby items to fly from El Monte Airport to the House of Ruth Pregnancy Care Center in Cottonwood, Arizona. He has a private pilot license.
The Arcadia Police Department sponsors a group of young people which is also sanctioned by the Boy Scouts of America and is known as the Arcadia Police Explorer Post #101.
Arcadia Rotary Club and Arcadia Chinese Association (ACA) announce plans to restore Fort Rotary, a two-story western-style Boy Scout fort in the foothills behind Monrovia. This is historic, the first coordinated project between these two organizations. Architect Kevin Le from Le Architecture in Monrovia, has already volunteered his time to help. The project is expected to cost up to $140,000. So far, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has pledged $25,000, ACA has pledged $25,000 and Arcadia Rotary has pledged $22,000 on behalf of Mary Hansen of Arcadia.
Arcadia based Cub Scouts go Supernova. Four Scouts recently earned the highest accomplishment a Cub Scout can receive for science, technology, engineering and math. Gianni Carrano, Vincent Docimo, Ian Parsons and John Short, fifth graders at Holy Angels School in Arcadia and members of the school’s Cub Scout Pack 114, achieved the Supernova Award.
Michael Dougherty of Boy Scout Troop 103 has attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Fewer than two percent of all scouts nationally earn the Eagle rank, the highest honor that can be achieved in the Boy Scouts of America.
