Arcadia Methodist Hospital unveiled Chinese and English print ads to encourage people of Chinese descent to get screened for colon cancer. The year-long campaign featuring Chinese colon cancer survivors was developed by the American Cancer Society and four Asian-American owned advertising agencies.
According to Chester Zahn, gastroenterologist at Methodist Hospital, Chinese Americans have higher rates of colon cancer than other Americans. The American Cancer Society is teaming with Asian American advertising agencies to educate Chinese Americans about colon cancer screenings.
Expansion of the Westfield Shoppingtown Santa Anita will begin soon. It will add 104,400 sq. ft. of retail, 18,400 sq. ft. of restaurants, a 7,800 sq. ft. food court, 45,000 sq. ft. of specialty stores, 54,300 sq. ft. of movie theaters, and a 5,400 sq. ft. auto center. The planned tenants include an AMC theater, Borders Book Store, and Sports Chalet. Expansion will be completed in 2005.
St. Baldrick's Foundation held its annual fundraising event at Matt Denny's Ale House. More than 70 volunteers got their family, friends and co-workers to give donations for them to shave their heads. Methodist Hospital of Southern California's current major capital building project, construction of a new surgical unit and outpatient services center in Arcadia, has received a $60,000, 5-year grant from the Security Pacific Foundation. Ground breaking for the $9.2 million surgical wing and outpatient center will take place in February.

The City Council voted unanimously to allow construction of a 50,000 sq. ft., 24 hour Albertson's market at Live Oak and Tyler Avenues. The complex, to be completed in January 1995, includes a 2800 sq. ft. restaurant and space for small shops.
