Honorees of Arcadia Chamber 2015 Business Awards include Patricia Colonello of Mountain Views News. Business Person of the Year went to Kin Hui of Arcadia, CEO of Singpoli Group. Business of the Year went to Sierra Auto Honda, a family owned business. Raquel McLaughlin and her mother were awarded New Business of the Year.
Entrepreneur Kin Hui, CEO of Singpoli Capital Corp., unveiled North America's first Chinese language website exclusively devoted to the sport of horse racing. It is called YUPRacing.com. It features several Chinese language videos which showcase the beauty of Santa Anita Park and will take bets.
Marquee West, a teen "night club" that opened in December 1977, had its use permit revoked by the Planning Commission on March 28, 1978. They may appeal.
About 1,000 local Taiwanese-Americans protested a proposed anti-secession law Saturday outside the Chinese Consulate General office in Los Angeles. Arcadia resident James Liang was one such protester.
Two Arcadia homes found by Arcadia Police Department to be used for indoor marijuana growing operations in the 1800 block of South Baldwin Avenue and the 300 block of West Woodruff Avenue. Gao Ming, 46-year-old male from Arcadia, Jia Hui Shen, 27-year-old male from El Monte, and Lan Lau, a 34-year-old female from Arcadia, were arrested and booked at Arcadia City Jail.
A proposed ordinance to control open parties calls for a permit to be secured from the Chief of Police at least three days in advance. It aims to control groups of 50 or more. Wedding receptions would be exempt.
Citing lap dancing and other violations, the City has revoked the business permit of Golden Eyes Gentlemen's Club. Under the Arcadia Municipal Code, that decision is final.
Hounds put noses to work in training. Police bloodhounds and their K9 handlers gather in Encino for required certification tests and exercises. The certification exam drew police and dogs from LAPD, Arcadia, La Verne, and other cities, and sheriffs from Riverside and Orange Counties.
Steinmeier and Yuen are elected to School Board. Yuen is the first Asian-American elected to the board and this was the first full election conducted on computerized voting machines in LA County.

Arcadia couple Edward Chen, aka Jianqiao Chen, Jian Qiao Chen, and Jian Chen aka Jing Jiang and Jean Jiang, accused of fraud involving defrauding investors through EB-5 visa schemes. The couple's companies raised more than $22.5 million from 45 Chinese investors, purportedly to build an interior design center in Ontario and a condominium building in Los Angeles. An 81-year-old West Covina man, Hao Liang, was struck and killed by a car when he was walking across Santa Anita Avenue, south of Duarte Road, last Wednesday, December 18, approximately 5:36 PM, at La Sierra Drive. The driver was a 36-year-old Monterey Park woman.
Marquee West use permit: new hurdle. Operators of the Marquee West teenage night club at 30 S. First Avenue will face a new hurdle when Planning Commission will reconsider the conditional use permit under which the center operates. The staff recommendation will be to revoke the permit, "due to the inability to control irresponsible behavior and the apparent inability of Marquee West to comply fully with all the conditions of the permit." Arcadian Darlis Clark, who sued the LA Police Dept. for allegedly lying to a judge and falsifying information to obtain a search warrant to search her home in June, 1987, lost her federal civil rights lawsuit in a 6-0 verdict. The LAPD had hoped to link Clark in an investigation of ZZZBest carpet cleaning whiz kid Barry Minkow and organized crime.
Plaza de las Fiestas, a new multipurpose arena in the northwest quadrant of the infield at the Santa Anita Park, has been created to accommodate Family Faire weekend outings for groups of 25 or more, as well as company picnics, concerts, trade shows, equine shows and other special occasions that can share the day with racing.
Annie Yuen was elected as the Arcadia school board's first Asian member. She is part of a growing group of local politicians who came as immigrants and ended up in public office.
A draft ordinance has been submitted to the City Council that would allow Arcadia residents to conduct businesses out of their homes if certain criteria are met and a permit is approved. According to current law, such businesses are illegal.
