Arcadia Police Department has a new police chief. His name is Bob Guthrie and has been serving as interim police chief since Bob Sanderson retired in April. He joined the Arcadia Police Department as a cadet in 1989.
Resident David Fong and Arcadia Police Chief Robert Guthrie address recent Arcadia school lockdowns. Highland Oaks School had been put on lockdown while Arcadia police searched for suspects in a residential robbery. Arcadia Unified School District has only one school resource officer and Fong asked the city to seriously consider additional safety measures at Arcadia schools.

Arcadia aims to increase tourism and makes breakthrough in residential burglaries. Recap of Arcadia City Council meeting. New Arcadia tourism video was presented to promote Arcadia, with the goal of bringing new business investment to the city. Arcadia Police Chief Bob Guthrie gave a report on crime in the city and has recently uncovered a ring of burglars in the county through the cracking of codes on a captured burglar’s cell phone and has a couple of those criminals in custody.
Why the Arcadia Police Department is reporting an overall crime decrease. This most recent quarter (May 1-July 31) has seen a reduction of 10.5% to 11% in residential burglaries compared to the same time period last year.
Arcadia Police Department Chief Guthrie has implemented an Area Command Community Partnership Program to effectively address crime issues and improve quality of life issues in the City of Arcadia in its five geographic areas (same as voting districts).
Unemployment rates for Los Angeles County have climbed to 12.4% in July, 2010, well above the 11.9% from a year ago, according to the California Economic Development Department. With a slight increase in unemployment in March, the state of California reached a post-Great Depression jobless rate high of 12.6%. Los Angeles County's unemployment rate remained locked at 12.4% from February to March. Economists say unemployment has hit bottom. The jobless rate for Arcadia in March, 2010 was 7.1%, or 1,900 people unemployed. A chart shows numbers for nearby cities.
Richard Robert Russo, convicted in the murder of his wife Carmen, hanged himself with a bedsheet in his cell at Wasco State Prison. He died Sunday, October 15, 2006.
Arcadia City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto has appointed Captain Roy Nakamura as the city's 30th police chief. He is a 28-year veteran of the Arcadia Police Department. He succeeds Chief Robert T. Guthrie, who is retiring. Nakamura is the first police chief of Japanese and Asian descent in a city that once temporarily incarcerated Japanese and Japanese-Americans at Santa Anita Park. Arcadia's population is currently 60.8% Asian.

Arcadia Police Department's PACE office in the Westfield Shoppingtown mall has a new name and sign. It is now called Arcadia Police Department-Community Services and two officers, Sgt. Bob Guthrie and Officer Paul van der Noorn, are now manning the station in the lower level, near JC Penney.
