Arcadia Library Board of Trustees appoints Mary Beth Hayes as interim Director of Library and Museum Services, following the sudden death of Jackie Faust-Moreno. Mary Beth Hayes has been employed by the City of Arcadia since 1989 and is currently Library Services Manager.

Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage will have a groundbreaking for its Education Center at 5:30 PM on September 29. The 2,650 square foot Education Center will have classrooms for educational programming such as art, crafts, lectures, children's and senior activities. The building will provide the space needed for current activities and will allow for future expansion of Museum and recreation programs. The Arcadia Museum Education Center is a joint effort of the City of Arcadia and the Arcadia Historical Museum Foundation. The budget for the building is $877,339 with $500,000 of that donated by the Foundation. It should be open by May 2014.
Arcadia's Gilb Museum celebrates 20th anniversary with a new exhibit and guided tour with a behind-the-scenes look at the museum's collections. Floretta K. Lauber Museum Education Center (MEC) dedicated in Arcadia in her name, upon the 1 year anniversary of her death. Lauber died August 1, 2016 and the MEC broke ground September 29, 2013. She was Arcadia's first woman to serve as mayor.
The Ruth and Charles Gilb Arcadia Historical Museum keeps the past alive. Recently Doug Hayes donated family artifacts to the collection, an exhibit of Seabiscuit will run until October 31, and work will begin soon on restoration of "The Hugo Reid Family" statue.
Local kids joined thousands of children across the country when they read "The Story of Ferdinand" at the FasTracKids learning facility as part of the Jumpstart Read for the Record Program.
