A lot of Arcadians now own a piece of the city's float that will appear in the Rose Parade on New Year's Day. Residents who contribute a dollar or more receive a decal stating "I own a piece of the float."

"Spirit of America, Pride of Arcadia" is the theme of the Arcadia float for the 1984 Tournament of Roses. Mayor David Hannah proclaimed the theme for the period of November 17 to December 1, the date of Arcadia's Coronation Ball at which Arcadia's Tournament queen will be revealed.
The 1989 Arcadia Tournament of Roses Royal Court includes Jenny Chan, a Cal Poly Pomona freshman; Kathleen Lecher, a Maranatha High School senior; Jennifer Worsley, 16, Elyse Douglas, 17 and Tricia Stonecipher, an Arcadia High School senior.
A group of Arcadia parents have quietly formed and organization to try to reduce teenage alcohol and drug abuse. Still in its formative stages, the yet-unnamed group has proposed serving as chaperones at teen functions, distributing a "caution statement" to local liquor stores, and to establish drug and alcohol-free contracts between parents and teens.
