Major changes on tap for Arcadia in the new year. Delta Marriott Hotel slated for the old Santa Anita Inn; Arcadia's tallest building, currently housing Bank of America at 150 N. Santa Anita Avenue, has gone up for sale. The current Arcadia Self Storage at 35 W. Huntington Drive is proposed to become a modern food vendor location, reminiscent of the Grand Central Market in Downtown Los Angeles or the Anaheim Packing House.

Matt Denny's: past and future success. Matt McSweeny talks about his early days owning Matt Denny's restaurant at 145 E. Huntington Drive, opened in 1997 and thanks the people who supported it for 19 years. He has sold it to new owner Long Nguyen.
The Great Scot Restaurant built in Arcadia at 100 N. Santa Anita Avenue. It opened in March,1972. Beyond the restaurant the Towne Center Building of about 6 stories can be seen. It is at 150 N. Santa Anita Avenue.
Helms elected chamber president. James Helms, Jr. was elected president of the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce. Jim Clarke is vice president and president-elect. Clarke is owner of Clarke Directory Publications, Inc. Other officers are treasurer Dick Closson and budget director Lyle Cunningham. Carol Libby and Roy Long will be honored as Citizens of the Year. A nationwide forgery scheme uncovered by the Arcadia Police Department has resulted in the arrest of three men at the Santa Anita Avenue branch of the Bank of America.

Cautious concern is the reaction of public officials to a comment by Santa Anita Park race track spokesman, Robert Sweeney, that the track could go out of business if Proposition 37 passes this November. Jim Helms, chairman of the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce's Legislative Committee said that his group opposes the Lottery Initiative in part because it could reduce revenue to Santa Anita and the city.
