The fund will provide scholarships for children, to purchase books for the family library, to fund staff appreciation, and to finance the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights educational programs.
Four San Gabriel Valley students recognized with the Congressional Award Medal from Congresswoman Judy Chu. Recipients were Richard Dong of Arcadia, Julieanna Guo of Alhambra, Cristie Huang from Arcadia and Melanie Phan (Claremont).
Wei Sheng "Jackie" Chen, 46, of Arcadia, owner of Tema Media Inc., and store manager Dong Qun Lin, 40, of Alhambra, were arrested for allegedly importing and selling Chinese movie DVDs bearing an allegedly counterfeit Dolby Digital trademark. They were charged for the federal crime of trafficking in counterfeit goods. If convicted, Chen and Lin each face a maximum possible sentence of 10 years in federal prison.

Eric Perry Memorial 5K Run/Walk takes place June 2 at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden in Arcadia. Eric Perry died of brain cancer. His family is covering the costs of the event and will be donating all proceeds to the American Brain Tumor Association. Perry was a longtime resident of Arcadia.

Downtown Arcadia businesses create "Community Benefit District." Each business owner would pay extra in property taxes to go into a fund to better market the area to customers and visitors. Mass transit riders take preview run on 11.5 mile Gold Line Foothill extension from is current terminus at Sierra Madre Villa Station (in Pasadena) to the six new stations to the east, including Arcadia Station, Monrovia Station, Duarte Station, Irwindale Station, Downtown Azusa Station, and Azusa Pacific University/Citrus College Station. California State Treasurer John Chiang and Arcadia leaders shower accolades at the groundbreaking of Le Meridien, One Gallop Way. It is a $300 million hotel and mixed-use development on seven acres, opposite Santa Anita Park race track. Developer Chateau Group USA held the ceremonal groundbreaking on June 27. Le Meridien is a Marriott brand. CEO Eric Chen spoke. Architects Orange, interior design firm Linda Snyder Associates and construction company Snyder Langston have been tapped to work this project. To open in 2020.
