Arcadia High School Constitution Team wins state finals. The team will head to Washington DC for the National Finals in April. The team is comprised of 30 students, teacher and leader Megan Leahy, and several volunteer coaches, including Kevin Fox, Miriam Lopez, Mark Hong, Carl Nielsen, Bob Garrett, and City Councilman Gary Kovacic.
First Avenue Middle School welcomes new principal Semeen Issa. Dr. Issa had been assistant principal at the school for the past 6 years and this will be her 17th year at First Avenue Middle School.
Arcadia Unified School District's First Avenue Middle School music teacher Michael Danielson is one of only 16 teachers to be recognized as a 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year.
Arcadia Unified School District accepted into national network of innovative school districts, called the League of Innovative Schools, a national coalition of forward-thinking school districts organized by Digital Promise, a nonprofit organization with the mission to accelerate innovation in education and improve the opportunity to learn for all through technology and research.
Arcadia’s First Avenue Middle School student-actors are out of this world. The school’s Production class of 2019 has been preparing the entire fall semester for its upcoming play “Out of This World,” to be performed December 6 and 7 in the First Avenue auditorium. The theater teacher is Susi Reck. The theater program at First Avenue has four different levels.
Arcadia High School Constitution Team is going to Washington DC to the National Finals of the "We the People" Citizen and Constitution Challenge. The team is 30 seniors from AP Government and Politics class. They won the state championship last month.
"Apache News" is a news show produced by the advanced video production class at Arcadia High School, under the tutelage of Bill Citron. The weekly show keeps students on campus informed. Citron's students can be quite marketable in the video production industry once they leave his program.
Apache News at Arcadia High School sets journalistic standards. Apache News is a 15-minute weekly show that airs every Friday during fourth period. It is created by the Advanced Video Production class taught by Frank Nunez.
Metro responds to concerns over paid parking at Arcadia Gold Line Station. It costs $3 to park there but it had been free. Now that there is a cost to parking at Arcadia Station, there are more open spaces and this was Metro's anticipated and desired effect.
Arcadia Unified School District hosting Arcadia Innovation Summit, free of charge and open to all. Sessions will focus on three areas: Google Ecosystem (using Chromebooks, Google Apps for Education and Third-Party Applications), teaching in a 1:1 classroom, and other innovative teaching practices like Genius Hour and Makerspace.
Tournament of Roses announces 2016 Royal Court. Two girls are from Altadena, four from Pasadena and one from Arcadia. Rose Princess Rachelle Chacal Renee Liu lives in Arcadia, but goes to San Marino High School. See also Pasadena Star News, October 6, 2015, p. 1
