Patsy Chang Kote, a live-in housekeeper, was arrested Monday at the Arcadia home of Ruth LeBerthon on suspicion of elder abuse and grand theft after she admitted tricking the 92 year old woman in her care into cashing pension checks and then taking the money.
Twenty-five year old Matthew Fay Echauri of Arcadia, has been found guilty of brutally stabbing his 18-year-old girlfriend in Temple City two years ago. He was found guilty of four felony counts: one count of attempted murder, one count of mayhem, two counts of dissuading a witness from reporting a crime with force and violence. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 12.
John Allsbury, 39, the Arcadia auto broker accused of felony grand theft, was found guilty of nine felony counts of grand theft and nine misdemeanor counts of operating his auto brokerage without a state license. Sentencing was scheduled for March 9 in Los Angeles Superior Court.

A jury hears defendant Richard Robert Russo's conversation with Arcadia policeman Bruce Smith as he says, "I killed my wife." Russo's wife Carmen had about 18 bullet holes in her body. A South Korean fugitive named Bae Chang-kul was captured in Arcadia and has been returned to his native country, where he is accused of stealing $37 million from his company's account in January 2003. The 48-year-old has been living in Arcadia with a long-expired visa.
Former Arcadia police officer Christian Blesch (photo), 36, was arrested for embezzlement of Arcadia Police Officers' Association funds. As of September 24, 2013, Blesch was terminated. Blesch allegedly charegd more than $50,000 for personal items on a police association's credit card. He pleaded not guilty to a felony count of grand theft by embezzlement.

An Arcadia man, David Frederick Thornton, pleaded guilty to two counts of mail fraud, two counts of wire fraud and one count of impersonating a federal officer. Charges included his defrauding donors to his Thornton Kidney Research Foundation.
The California Second District Court of Appeals rejected Mulji Patel's claim that the restitution awarded to Erwin Nepomuceno for $20,250 in lost earnings was excessive. Patel was convicted in March 2009 on two counts of assaults with a deadly weapon for the January 31, 2006 attack on Nepomuceno, a workers' compensation attorney. Patel was a Rockwell International employee and a jury found him sane at the time. Patel was sentenced in May 2009 to 12 years in state prison.
