Fourteen-year-old Ron Cheney earned $1,000 for the Arcadia Presbyterian Church's youth fund by eating chicken. In a contest sponsored by the Market Basket food chain, Ron ate 1.28 pounds of chicken in 10 minutes.
The Westerner Restaurant has been granted a temporary permit allowing patrons to dance on the premises. The temporary permit is valid until an ordinance can be formally enacted. Until this action was taken, public dancing was allowed only at the Santa Anita Turf Club.
The dancing permit granted to the Westerner has been causing headaches. Residents adjacent to the restaurant have been complaining of noise and spillover parking. The City Council has extended the permit only until the next regular meeting on January 7, 1975.
A portion of the Eaton's restaurant property on the corner of Colorado and Michillinda has been sold by the Times Mirror Company to Younson Construction, who will build 18 residences on the site.
The famed old Eaton's Restaurant will be demolished and plans have been submitted for a smaller building which will house: a) CoCo's - a high class coffee shop b) Plankhouse - steak, lobster, bar, entertainment. The owners will be Far West Services, Inc., which owns such restaurants as the Reuben E. Lee in Newport.
Relics of Eaton's Restaurant will be on sale during the next 3 or 4 weeks by Mead House Wrecking prior to the demolition which is to make room for 2 new restaurants.
Mrs. Johanna Hofer has declared that she will be a write-in candidate for the April 19 School Board election. A vocal critic of the Board, she expressed her views on the issues.
The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1974 is being challenged in the Supreme Court. It would prohibit employees from accumulating overtime past a 40 hour week, and it would require state and local governments to pay time and a half for overtime.

Newcastle, Australia will help celebrate Arcadia's Diamond Jubilee with a band concert and party. It is hoped that Arcadia Park, in Newcastle, will be ready in time for a dedication in September.
The biggest community wide event of the Bicentennial period will be held Sunday October 12 at Arcadia High School. Music, food, dancing, booths. Event will begin at 1:00 P.M.
