Arcadia High School graduate Mano "Paul" Kamaleson, age 55, was killed in a suicide bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan this week. His sister Ruth Loisel still lives in Arcadia.

Second grade student Austin Puertas of Holy Angels School in Arcadia organized a fundraiser to help victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. The school board discussed the possibility of implementing AIDS education at the 7th grade level. There is currently a 2.5 day session in the 10th grade that discusses the problem.
Pasadena Star News conducted a survey of local city government websites among area cities, looking for transparency of public information. Monrovia and Rosemead scored the highest, with A grades. Arcadia came in 6th among 32 cities, with a B-minus grade.

Housing grades given by Southern California News Group. Every city and county in California has state-mandated targets for how much additional housing it needs across a range of affordability levels. Arcadia Battalion Chief Don Shawver received a request to report for special duty at the Pentagon six hours after the first terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. He went to help as a safety officer.

Since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City and the Pentagon in Washington DC, Police Chief Dave Hinig said the Arcadia Police Department has evolved and is thinking beyond local crime enforcement. Officers are thinking more regionally and are more conscious of calling the bomb squad.
