Arcadian Betsy Hatch took 2nd prize in the Textile and Craft Division of the California State Fair. Hatch, whose background and enthusiasm for her work is described, teaches a class in quilting.
Barry L. Hatch, 57, a Republican junior high school history teacher in Montebello, is attempting to qualify as a write-in candidate for the 28th Congressional District seat election, currently held by David Dreier of La Verne. The election is on November 8, 1994.
A jury hears defendant Richard Robert Russo's conversation with Arcadia policeman Bruce Smith as he says, "I killed my wife." Russo's wife Carmen had about 18 bullet holes in her body. Russo is charged with murder and two counts of child abuse. They lived in the exclusive Santa Anita Oaks neighborhood of Arcadia.
Metro Gold Line Construction Authority agrees to pay $24 million for a commercial property in Monrovia, to be used as a maintenance yard for the Pasadena to Azusa light rail extension. The 4.5 acres of land, on the southwest corner of Evergreen and Shamrock Avenues, is owned by George Brokate of Excalibur Holdings.
Denise Lucy Thrane, an Arcadia woman who agreed to be a surrogate mother for a childless couple from New York, gave birth to a boy. Ms. Thrane now wants to keep the baby.

Juan Lorenzo, 33, of San Gabriel, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the 2011 stabbing death of 18-year-old Pomona man Anthony Berry. Lorenzo was working at Money Pot Shabu Shabu Restaurant in the 1300 block of S. Golden West Avenue, when he got involved in an argument with Berry.

The suspects are employees of Money Pot Shabu Shabu restaurant and became involved in an argument with Berry. Lorenzo will be arraigned January 5, 2012.
Eight Arcadia High School students stood in front of the city police station waving signs at motorists to protest Arcadia's teen curfew after one of them was stopped for roller skating on the street at night. The curfew ordinance has been in effect for more than 20 years and prohibits people under the age of 18 from loitering on streets and in public places between 10 PM and sunrise.

A witness in the preliminary hearing of Brian Lawrence Snoke states that he was "going out to shoot these people" the morning that Scott Hutson, Christina Young and Robert Green were killed.
