Arcadia Board of Education candidates addressed the questions of teacher proficiency, curriculum, censorship and tenure at a forum sponsored by the American Association of University Women and the Arcadia League of Women Voters. Candidates attending the forum were Robert Harris, Marilyn Perkins, Mary Dougherty, David Strauss and William Spuck.
Bea Chute, trustee of the Arcadia Public Library and president of the California Association of Library Trustees and Commissioners, was one of 350 library trustees to attend the 102nd annual conference of the American Library Association in Los Angeles, June 25-30, 1983.

Ruth Gilb elected president of Arcadia Tournament of Roses Association. Mrs. Gilb took over from Craig Lucas as the newly elected president for the year 1983-84.
Susan Gulkis, an eighth grade honor student at Foothill Junior High School in Arcadia is an accomplished violinist. Currently concertmistress of the Pasadena Youth Symphony and the Foothills Junior High orchestra, she will be featured soloist in a "Symphony for Youth" concert sponsored by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
The Arcadia Chinese Association honored its new president Dr. Wayne Lin. The association, which began seven years ago with 25 families, represent 1300 today.
