Louis Pappas, First Avenue Junior High School history teacher, has been appointed assistant principal at Foothills Junior High School. Pappas will succeed Dr. Donald Smith who is retiring January 28.
A reduction of 4 or 5 teachers in the Arcadia schools has been proposed as a means of cutting next year's budget. The district hopes to achieve this by attrition.

Jerry Barshay was chosen to replace Dr. Richard Cordano as Principal of Arcadia High School. Barshay is a native Californian and has been an educator in the public schools for 18 years. He served most recently as vice principal of the Torrance School District.
Arthur Farr, 46, the band and orchestra leader at Dana Junior High School, has been named the Arcadia Unified School District's 1990 Teacher of the Year. Farr has been teaching band and orchestra at Dana for 23 years, as well as coaching the basketball team and teaching physical education. Leonard Rodriguez, executive vice principal at St. Francis School in La Canada-Flintridge, has been named Assistant Principal of First Avenue Junior High School.
The School Board has passed and adopted a new teachers salary schedule for 1975-76. The teachers unions have not yet ratified the agreement. Salaries range from $9553 for a first year teacher to $19,918 for a teacher with extra college credits, including an MA.
The California Teachers Association has advised the Arcadia Teachers Association to reopen negotiations on salaries for the current year. The 3-year Arcadia contract has no provision for increases in local teachers' salaries.
There appears to be some progress in contract negotiations between the Arcadia Unified School District and the Arcadia Teachers Association. Though officials were reluctant to talk about specifics, fear of a strike by the teachers has been allayed.
