Arcadia is taking a "zero tolerance" position against violence in the schools. The new program, called 'Peaceful Arcadia through Community Efforts 2000' or 'PACE 2000' is a joint effort with city officials, the Arcadia Police Department and school district leaders.
In the wake of a fight in January between Asian American and white teenagers near Arcadia High School, police, parents and school officials have come up with a new get-tough policy to crack down on students involved in violence or drugs. Called PAXCE 2000, for "Peaceful Arcadia Through Community Efforts 2000," the program puts a police officer at the High School and three junior high schools.

Census 2000 chart shows the length of time it takes Arcadia and other area community residents to get to work and the percentage of population affected. Census found that locals have shorter drives.
Preparations for the sixth annual Health Fair to be held at the Santa Anita Fashion Park mall are discussed. Numerous local community organizations will be participating.
City Council was briefed on Arcadia's redevelopment efforts which includes the construction of a new police station, creation of affordable housing and improvements to the city's business districts.
The Arcadia Educational Foundation presented $35,000 to the Board of Education. Their efforts to solicit community support through various fundraisers is ongoing.
Downtown 2000, the $4 million revitalization project, will primarily affect Huntington Drive and First Ave. Huntington Drive will have more landscaping and lighting, while First Ave. will have angled parking and landscaping to be more pedestrian oriented.
