Arcadia Vietnam War Monument placed in Arcadia County Park. It is 22,000 pounds. From 1966-1972, 14 U.S. servicemen from Arcadia became casualties of the war in Vietnam. Santa Anita Park's Derby Day 5K race brings out over 5,500 runners, the largest turnout in the race's 20-year history. The 5K is a fundraiser, with approximately $10,000 raised for Arcadia Historical Museum, Arcadia High School and CARMA, an organization devoted to caring for retired horses.
Aaron Sharp of Port Hueneme posted a time of 15:01 to win his third straight Santa Anita Derby Day 5K at Santa Anita Park last Saturday. It was the 20th anniversary of the race.
Arcadia Rotary's inaugural "Field of Honor" displays 1000 U.S. flags at Arcadia County Park. It is an impressive display of patriotism. Flags are sold for $50 to anyone who cares to remember a loved one or service member. It is a Rotary fundraising effort to benefit numerous area charities including Boys and Girls Club.
Perini's Hair Plus named a "business icon" by Arcadia Chamber of Commerce and Arcadia Historical Society. Frank Perini opened his barbershop in Arcadia in 1954. He joined Arcadia Rotary Club shortly after opening his shop.
Santa Anita Park is searching for new great voice to announce races since Trevor Denman will be retiring. In the meantime, Frank Mirahmadi and Michael Wrona will share announcer duties.
