A confrontation between the Board of Directors of the Juvenile Diversion Program and Ron Weber, Executive Director of the Regional Office of Criminal Justice Planning, has resulted in a renegotiation of the start for this project. Meant to provide counseling services to youths of seven area cities, it was delayed in opening, and the Board of Directors wants and extension on their funds and contract to prove themselves.
The City Council is considering collecting taxes on free admissions to the Santa Anita Park race track. It would mean considerably greater income for the City.
Feeling that career counseling should start early, Foothills Junior High has started a program of extensive exposure to many different careers. Involved were many parents, who shared their backgrounds.
The City Council voted to start a Worker's Compensation self- insurance program. The city has used state compensation in the past, but self-insurance will save approximately $480,000 in the next 5 years.
A U.S. government depository is now being readied for Arcadians. A representative collection appropriate for this community will be selected out of the approximately 22,000 items available.
Curtailment and changes in the Five Year Capital Improvements program as adopted by the City Council last week have drawn disapproval of some Arcadians.
Bill Kuyper is a civil engineer with 20 years experience and a candidate for Arcadia City Council. He wants to "wait, evaluate all factors." See hard copy of newspaper in Box 51.
Approval was given by the Planning Commission to a group which wants to open Marquee West in the former bowling alley on Morlan Place. The owners plan to bring various musical groups to the facility. There will be no drugs or liquor allowed.

Arcadia resident Ed Honeywell has plans to build a backyard solar still to produce alcohol from lawn clippings. He intends to mix the alcohol with gasoline to produce fuel for his car. All of these plans depend on Honeywell obtaining proper licensing for the still.

The Arcadia Early Childhood Education (ECE) program may be at an end in Arcadia. Two schools have requested to terminate their programs and a 3rd school wished to make large changes in its program.
