The founder of Focus on the Family, James Dobson, will resign as president and chief executive. Dobson formed the beginnings of Focus on the Family in 1977 in Arcadia and moved to Colorado Springs in 1991.

Brian Osier and Mark Thompson, co-owners of Teamates Sporting goods, are organizing a benefit tournament to help the family of Rob Edgell, a West Covina resident who died in May, leaving behind a wife and four children and no life insurance.
Arcadia Mayor Peter Amundson defends his speaker of choice at next month's Mayor's Community Breakfast. He has invited H. B. London, of Focus on the Family, a conservative Christian group that opposes same-sex marriage. Residents and activists upset about this choice are organizing two counterevents of their own. Activists are planning a "peaceful" demonstration March 4 outside Arcadia Community Center and a bar-b-que at Pasadena's Unitarian Church for all families. Focus on the Family was founded in Arcadia by Dr. James C. Dobson and believes marriage is meant to be between a man and a woman. Amundson said the event is not about sexuality but about the Arcadia family.
Mrs. Irene Wiley was freed on the charge that she was wilfully cruel to her 13-year-old daughter Susan Wiley, aka "Genie." The article was written by Lucie Lowery. A 13-year-old girl named Susan Wiley was reportedly a prisoner in her home for all her life until a social worker discovered the abuse. Susan's parents Clark Wiley and Irene Wiley were arrested. The family home is at 6722 Golden West Avenue, in a county area of Arcadia. Susan Wiley was living in an environment of total isolation and deprivation and was malnourished. She cannot talk, is deformed, barely able to walk and is not toilet trained. She has been placed in the care of Children's Hospital. The child has come to be known by the alias "Genie." The Noyes family may continue their fight for custody of the baby born by surrogate mother Nisa Bhimani despite the publicity over Bjorna Noyes being a transsexual. Bhimani's lawyer claimed the other would not have backed out of her deal with the Noyes had she been paid as agreed.

This was girlhood home of Vera Van Houten and her family. The children went all the way through Arcadia schools as this home was in Arcadia School District.
Murder trial. Deyun Shi, man accused of revenge on family. The prosecutor said Shi, a Chinese citizen, had plan to flee to Hong Kong after killing his 2 teenage nephews in Arcadia and an attack against his wife. Shi faces life in prison without parole if convicted in the January 22, 2016 killings of 15-year-old Anthony Lin and 16-year-old William Lin, and of injuring his wife the day before. The boys were bludgeoned to death in their home in the 400 block of Fairview Avenue in Arcadia.
