Gift cards to Picasso's Cafe, Bakery and Catering Co. are now selling at Costco warehouse stores. Each purchase also supports two local non-profits--Pacific Clinics and Our Neighborhood Homework House. Pacific Clinics is headquartered in Arcadia and is a community behavioral health care agency.
A national mobile "Driving for Quality Care" campaign to fully fund nursing care came to Country Villa Huntington Drive, an Arcadia retirement village yesterday, where seniors signed its petition. Environmentalists are using today's date 10/10/10 to rouse global action on the environment. They want "regular people" to work on environmental projects such as installing solar panels, planting trees, and demonstrating against polluters. In Arcadia, the California Institute of Environmental Design and Management will hold an environmental workshop with the Green Net Group today at the Arcadia Eco Home on 8th Avenue.
Hazel Williams, 96, of Arcadia, volunteers as coordinator of two outreach ministry projects she started at Arcadia Presbyterian Church--Operation Christmas Child and The Happy Big Box Program. The programs help needy children.
Sonia Maljian, Director of Laboratory Services at Arcadia Methodist Hospital, was invited to be one of 16 U.S. delegates to go to Egypt and help standardize their laboratory procedures. She will take part in the People to People Ambassador Program, hosted by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.
The restaurant Dave & Buster's at Westfield Santa Anita mall hosted a financial literacy seminar for 350 high school and college students. The seminars were organized by the nonprofit Operation HOPE and the Housing Authority of Los Angeles.
