At the City Planning Commission's General Plan Update meeting on April 29, 1996, an announcement was made that Santa Anita Realty had withdrawn its application for development of an entertainment center.
The City Council reviewed the general plan which was revised in December 1990, the first revision since the 1970's. This was the first time the City reviewed its progress in meeting the new plan's goals.

The Arcadia Business Association held a meeting August 22, 1984, to inform 36 Arcadia business owners of the city's downtown revitalization plan. Unattractive storefronts were cited as a key problem to be solved. In order to ameliorate the situation the city might exercise eminent domain and relocation of certain businesses that fail to voluntarily cooperate with the city plan.
About 200 Arcadia teachers marched outside prior to the Arcadia School Board meeting to protest what they called delays in negotiating a contract for the 1987-88 school year.
Arcadia and Sierra Madre city councils met to discuss their joint water system seismic reliability project which includes what the cities can do to ensure water in the event of a major earthquake.
The much-discussed ordinance governing types of roofs that can be used in Arcadia will be given a second reading at council meeting of August 17 and become effective 30 days later. Ordinance divides city into two zones: hazardous fire area in foothills and non-hazardous in lowlands.

There was a large crowd of parents at the school board meeting where the closure of two elementary schools was discussed. The board will make its final decision after the public hearings have been held on December 10 and January 8.
Developer Rick Caruso and his company are soliciting the Arcadia community's thoughts on his $400 million mall project slated for the parking lot of Santa Anita Park. A "scoping session" designed to solicit public views on what should be included in the environmental review will take place at City Council chambers at 7pm on April 7, 2005.
Although the Arcadia Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve The Shops at Santa Anita mall project, oppositon group members felt unfairly represented at Monday's meeting. A continuation meeting took place on Wednesday and 100 people attended. The public will get to comment again on April 11 at the Masonic Center.
