H.O.Y. and David Ireland will team up to give a Brown Bag Forum at the Arcadia Library covering such topics as Loneliness, Death, Depression, and Being Single.
As a result of the forest fires in Agoura-Malibu and Mandeville Canyon, the City Council will reopen the topic of non-combustible roofs on new buildings in Arcadia.
After 2 months of classes, enrollment for Arcadia schools is down 400 from last year at this time. The only enrollment increase has been in grades 4-6.
Tabulation of returns from a planning survey questionnaire sent to every 4th home in Arcadia shows that crime prevention is the #1 priority of Arcadia citizens. Next in line was street lighting. About 700 of the mailed questionnaires have been returned.
A small group of teachers, dissatisfied with an 8.5% salary increase, may go on strike. Both the Arcadia Teachers Association and the American Federation of Teachers local have disavowed the action.
Overall enrollment for the Arcadia schools was down by 470 on the first day of classes. The drop in enrollment coupled with Prop. 13 has resulted in a very small number of new teachers this year.
Marquee West, a teen "night club" that opened in December 1977, had its use permit revoked by the Planning Commission on March 28, 1978. They may appeal.
