After months of work, 25 Arcadia Rotarians, Rotaryanns and friends formed a Christmas caravan, carrying more than 350 gifts and better than 800 pounds of food, clothing and shoes to 227 orphans in Tijuana, Mexico.
Lyle W. Alberg has been chosen City Manager from more than 100 applicants. He has had more than 20 years experience in city government and will assume the post vacated by Lyman Cozad as of January 1, 1978.
The El Monte City Council formally withdrew its petition to annex some 300 acres of Arcadia property south of Live Oak Avenue. Protests to the annexation represented more than 50% of the assessed property owners.

Delegates from 20 cities reviewed the bylaws proposed for a formal association. Jim Helms of Arcadia chaired the meeting whose main purpose was to form a strong association to work more effectively toward having Los Angeles County pay greater attention to their needs. The Arcadia City Council reaffirmed its decision to barricade Hillcrest Blvd. near Valencia Way. The reasoning is that motorists would then be forced to disperse traffic rather than concentrate usage on one street.
Improvements at the county operated Peck Road Fishing and Conservation area, located between Arcadia and El Monte, are scheduled to be completed in 10 months. Most of the funds will come from a state grant.
Nine visitors to the Arboretum were injured when a large eucalyptus branch fell on them. They were taken to Arcadia Methodist Hospital where all but two were treated and released. The more seriously injured had a broken right arm and spinal damage.

The City Council will consider a proposed ordinance governing backyard sales on October 1, 1974. Regulations include: 1. A $1.00 permit would be required. 2. Sales would be limited to every 6 months. No sale could run longer than 2 consecutive days. 4. No signs could be placed on public property. 5. Sales must be between 8:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. 6. No merchandise would be allowed in the front yard.
Proposed annexation of the area between Standish Street on the north and Jeffries on the south. One hundred percent of the residents of the area have asked to be annexed, so proceedings should move rapidly.
The School Board and the Administration have debated optimum class size and decided that in any class where there are more than 32 students, a paid aide should be provided to assist the teacher.
