Recent changes in the scope of motion picture and television filming at the Arboretum has caused some residents to question the productions' use of the facility.
Arts & Culture spotlight on the new exhibit at the Ruth & Charles Gilb Arcadia Historical Museum. The exhibit is called "Roll 'em!: Motion Pictures Filmed in Arcadia and Surrounding Communities." Photos include Dana Dunn, curator at the museum, and movie posters of "A Star is Born" starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and "The African Queen," starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn.

Baldwin Park man John Bucalo has lifelong love affair with race horses. His career highlights included training one of Seabiscuit's offspring for the 1949 motion picture "The Story of Seabiscuit."
Vision21, an art portfolio and college preparatory school, has locations in Arcadia, Buena Park, Cerritos, Diamond Bar, La Crescenta and Los Angeles. The school offers classes in advertising, architecture, animation, digital media, fashion design, fine arts, film, illustration, photography, product and transportation design. Vision21 was founded in 1999 by Angie Kim, a graduate of Otis College of Art and Design. Daniel Cho is Kim's son and executive vice president. Classes are for elementary-aged students up to adults.
Natalie Innocenzi, 17, of Arcadia, and student at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, was crowned the 92nd Rose Queen, by 17-year-old Dominic DiSano, son of the late Gary DiSano, the recently deceased President of the Tournament of Roses.

Fewer than half of the high school students statewide scheduled to graduate in 2004 have passed both the English language arts and mathematics portions of the California High School Exit Exam. Arcadia High School sophomores who took the test last year had the strongest showing in the local area with 89% of the 738 students tested passing math and 88% passing English.

Survey proposed on Arcadia Arts Center. The city and school district may collaborate on a public survey to determine public attitude toward construction of an Arts Center in Arcadia. City Manager Bill Kelly told local leaders that an arts center could cost from $5 to $15 million, whether it is an auditorium alone, or a complex, which could include an art gallery and meeting rooms.
Jack Laidlaw, a teacher of film and art at Arcadia High School, lost his home in the recent Sayre Fire that destroyed 480 or so homes at Oakridge Mobile Home Park in Sylmar.
