Advocates and opponents of a proposed Target Department Store are having their arguments for what should be a lively discussion before the Arcadia Redevelopment Agency on December 4. The most controversial aspect of the proposed project is that, if approved, the city would buy property in the development area for $16-18 a square foot and resell it to the developer, Beech and Associates, as $12 a square foot.

Arroyo Pacific Academy will be allowed to begin classes Sept. 10, 2002 at its new site, 41 W. Santa Clara St. The private school for grades 7 to 12 will operate in a two story office building.
Eight Arcadia High School students stood in front of the city police station waving signs at motorists to protest Arcadia's teen curfew after one of them was stopped for roller skating on the street at night. The curfew ordinance has been in effect for more than 20 years and prohibits people under the age of 18 from loitering on streets and in public places between 10 PM and sunrise.

Caruso Affiliated, the builder of The Grove, proposes building a $400 million mixed housing and retail complex in the parking lot of Santa Anita Park. The project would include a few hundred apartments and condominiums.

Mall developer Rick Caruso has announced that he has removed 300 apartments from the proposed Shops at Santa Anita. Arcadians were concerned that the housing at the mall would contribute to overcrowding at Arcadia High School. Without the apartments, the project will be an open air mall instead of a mixed use development.
Two years of delays may soon be over and construction can begin on a 100-unit senior citizen housing project for Arcadia. The only problem currently standing between the developer and construction of the project at 645 West Naomi Avenue is written assurance that modification to the building plan does not require changes in the foundation.
The City Council voted against a proposed 6-unit development of condominiums on First Avenue. This caused some conflict as applicant Hank Jong had received approval for the project until a second check showed the zoning he was relying on conflicted with the general plan.
