23 Arcadia High School students capped third-place honors in the California State Finals of the National Bicentennial Competition. Todd Dickson, a 12-year-old student at Baldwin Stocker School, has won a trip to Spain. Parade Magazine conducted a contest for news carriers across the country. Todd joins 139 other carriers for his two week trip.
Ron Garner, 50, a deputy police chief in Beverly Hills with 24 years of police experience, has been named to head the Arcadia Police Department. He will lead a staff of 76 sworn officers and 26 civilian personnel.

Arcadia High School's advanced placement government class will enter the "We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution" Constitutional law competition in Sacramento, with the winning team to go the the national finals in late April. The same coach, Ron Morris, led a team to the national title in 1993.
