Six sets of golf clubs have been stolen in the past five weeks from Santa Anita Golf Course. Authorities are conducting undercover sting operations and encouraging golfers to monitor their possessions.

A group of Arcadia firefighters who had gone to New York City to help after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were so profoundly affected that they organized a fundraiser to benefit widows and orphans of the New York Fire Department and Arcadia Fire Department. Those who went were Captain Hutcheson, Captain Trabbie, John Beveridge, Craig Stogner, Cody Cerwin and paramedic Mike MacGregor.
Aiad Barakat, 45, of Arcadia, whose application for citizenship has been approved by a United States District judge, is under appeal by the Bush administration. The Justice Department filed the appeal because of Barakat's alleged ties to a Palestinian organization believed to be terrorist.
Virginia Brown recalls memories of early Arcadia having chicken farms everywhere. She has lived in Arcadia since her birth in 1917. Her father Scott Lee came to Arcadia in 1907 to dig water wells. Lee was a graduate of Throop Institute, which became California Institute of Technology. Her mother was Delia Chandler. Johnny Longden, the Hall of Fame jockey who rode Count Fleet to the Triple Crown in 1943 and was the first rider to win 6000 races, died on Feb. 14. Services will be held on February 24 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Arcadia.
