Arcadia city officials have approved across-the-board fee increases that are expected to generate $500,000 in revenue this year. Parking tickets will go up from an average of $40 to $50. Other fees going up include building permits, towing fees, business license fees, water, street, and engineering services.
Developers of a proposed $3.2 million tennis club in the foothills of Arcadia and Monrovia plan to take the first step toward building the controversial facility by filing for conditional use permits in both cities.
A package of new and increased city service fees designed to eliminate a potential budget shortfall will take effect on September 1, 2008. The higher fees are expected to bring Arcadia nearly $512,000 in the new fiscal year, by increases in fire services, swim classes, business licenses, plan checks and library services.
Arcadia to spend $450,000 to upgrade Planning Department and Public Works Department software to streamline how city personnel track building permits and the condition of equipment and infrastructure.

Routine approval by the Arcadia City Council is expected Tuesday night on a conditional use permit for a 100-unit senior housing project on West Naomi Avenue.
Building hits million mark. September permits push total to $1,101,525 for 1938. Largest single item on the official building report was $18,000 for Santa Anita Park entrance building which houses ticket booths. See hard copy in subject file Business and Industry.
Rusnak Motors gets a 6-month extension to its exception from ARA 172, a resolution that prohibits car sales unless new cars are also sold. The Council also acted to amend the central business district ordinance to allow service stations with a conditional use permit.
Arcadia Datsun official says next move is up to city. Bruce Low, general manager of Arcadia Datsun, had been granted a conditional use permit for a seven or eight story office building in the redevelopment project area.
The Arcadia City Council is considering changes to fees charged by the city through the Development Services Department. One change might be a $25 fee for new business license applications. The fees may increase for design review of new commercial projects and appeals from an architectural review board to the Planning Commission. The General plan amendment fee may drop and tentative tract maps for condos may drop. The city plans to increase fines for code violations.
Arcadia City Council has voted to impose fees on developers to pay for intersection-widening projects. A chart shows the traffic count at developments, at intersections, and the fee structure.
The new City Council has several options to try to fill the projected $2.2 million general fund budget gap. Options include dipping into city reserves, raising taxes and fees, salary cuts and layoffs.
On a 3-1 vote, the Arcadia City Council Tuesday night turned down a request from the Arcadia Chapter of the American Red Cross for a refund on a $3,076.78 building permit fee.
City of Arcadia Development Services Department launches Arcadia EDGE, an online customer service portal that provides permit assistance and access to tools and information relating to development and permitting. It stands for Electronic Development Gateway. Arcadia EDGE features the ability to schedule a building inspection for an active building permit, view building inspection schedules, look up permit history on a specific address, report a code violation, apply for a business license, and more.
