The Arcadia City Council has imposed stringent regulations on roofing materials for new hillside developments. Non-combustible Class A roofing material for new construction in Arcadia's residential-mountainous zone is required.
The City Council agreed to allow home owners in the residential-mountainous area of Arcadia to keep their existing roofs, although new developments may face new restrictions. At issue is the use of shake roofs that are not treated to fire retardant.

The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1974 is being challenged in the Supreme Court. It would prohibit employees from accumulating overtime past a 40 hour week, and it would require state and local governments to pay time and a half for overtime.
Further restrictions go into effect on January 1, 1976 of public officials to insure that their meetings are open to the public. Complete details of SB 1 are given.
Some Arcadia redevelopment land was OK'd for sale to Dr. James Chinn for the development of a new medical building. The property is at the corner of First and Wheeler, the site of the old library. The cost of the land and building is estimated at $900,000.
Arcadia is in the process of developing a comprehensive hillside building code to cover the integrity of the hillsides as well as safety from fires, mud slides, etc.
The Disaster Preparedness Plan is ready for adoption by the City Council. It includes contingency plans for the handling of earthquakes (as well as recommendations for building standards to help present earthquake damage), floods, fires and hazardous structures.
If everything goes as planned, Engineering-Science, now with offices in Arcadia's Towne Center, will build a two or three story building on the site of the old Cinemaland theater.
Arcadia Fire Capt. Jerry Broadwell died when a roof collapsed during a commercial blaze in Arcadia Wednesday. See VF "Broadwell, Jerry (1928-1975)" for a hard copy.
A new office building is being constructed on the corner of Huntington and Indiana. It will occupy the site of the old service station run for man years by William Stockman, but which has been closed for some time.
The City Council is facing the need to either refurbish and enlarge the existing Council Chambers or to build a new building. the second alternative seem the most likely, as the space vacated in the present City Hall could be used for crowded city departments.
A proposed five-story office building and adjacent bank building will be put before the Planning Commission. The site is the southeast corner of Foothill and Michillinda.
