A proposed five-story office building and adjacent bank building will be put before the Planning Commission. The site is the southeast corner of Foothill and Michillinda.

Some Arcadia redevelopment land was OK'd for sale to Dr. James Chinn for the development of a new medical building. The property is at the corner of First and Wheeler, the site of the old library. The cost of the land and building is estimated at $900,000.
A new office building is being constructed on the corner of Huntington and Indiana. It will occupy the site of the old service station run for man years by William Stockman, but which has been closed for some time.
Traces of history of the brick building on North First which was recently torn down. Built in the mid-1920's, it housed a restaurant, laundry, and various newspapers including the Tribune. Eventually the Post Office took over the entire building.

As far as the School District is concerned, the 39.99% reassessment of property due this November for Arcadia won't add much to school funds because when a district's own income goes up, state aid goes down.
A public hearing to air teachers' contract proposals was well attended by an angry public. Some expressed the view that teachers were out to get everything they can.

Some teachers began picketing in front of the district offices. At issue were charges of stalling on negotiations and the 1% increase offer by the School Board which the teachers called "an insult." Superintendent Ed Ryan said that if the two unions had been able to get together on their demands the problem might have been resolved by now.
A group of local businessmen have initiated steps to open a new bank, independently owned by other Arcadians. If all goes well, it will be the first independent bank to open in Arcadia since 1929.
