The Arboretum was awarded a $25,000 emergency grant from the Institute of Museum Services. The funds will be used to repair the damage that occurred during a windstorm in February.
January 12 was the first day that candidates for City Council could take out nomination papers. Those doing so were incumbents Charles Gilb and Jack Saelid. Don Pellegrino of Pellegrino's Restaurant has indicated that he will also file. Others are also considering running.

By February 14, 1985, the Granada Royale Hometel will be known as the Embassy Suite Hotel. The hotel was purchased in April 1984 by Embassy Suites, a subsidiary of Holiday Inn.
All work on the east end of the Foothill Freeway in Pasadena should be completed in mid-February. Trains have been using the freeway median since August 12, 1975.
Elections for 3 City Council seats will be held on April 11, 1978. The seats are currently held by Floretta Lauber, Charles Gilb and Jack Saelid. The filing period is January 12 - February 2.
